"Margin Of Error" (marginoferror)

Car front ends are like people faces. Some are visually pleasing, some are more generic but some are just vile. It gets even more interesting when a nice car is completely ruined by its poorly designed front end.

That’s not to say I wouldn’t own one and stick a procharger behind that snout

But the rest of the car wasn’t outstandingly nice either!

Because you spelled it “buther”, I have to consider what Mike Tyson would consider an ugly car. So I’m going to arbitrarily say “this” before my brain herniates:

Speaking from a design standpoint, the whole design would be much more consistent if the face didn’t look very squished.

I do NOT agree this is a bad front end. (I kinda like it myself) But the common wisdom of the jalop-mind has declared it a front-design-tragedy. I present to you the Subaru B9 Tribeca

Are you saying it’s shopped? Or overdone in the sense that everyone rips on the front end of this particular car?

The new smart. For as much as I LOVE smart, I still have a hard time swallowing this front end:
I wish Mercedes-Benz didn’t do away with the really striking LED lights they put on the fourjoy concept. Here are the lights on a render from a magazine:
I mean, the actual car DOES look so much better in person, but it’s just not photogenic at all.

I’ve never understood the styling decisions that went on here, but maybe I’m just not sophisticated enough to appreciate it.

While I do like the Porsche 968 as a car, I’ve always thought its “round in the front, boxy in the back” looks are like two different cars frankensteined together.
The W210 Mercedes E-Class kinda has the same problem. My dad had a ’97 E420 for a looong time and I never quite warmed up to the front end.

Totally. But I would only buy one used because they depreciate like crazy. For all the hate that Lincoln gets over on Jalopnik, they are actually nice cars, and a great value used.

Lexus GS. I like the interior, as well as the exterior from the firewall back, but the front end just kills it.

They sure as hell are.
I called them out on the MKX buyer guide published yesterday.
opening line says it’s a fancy Edge, later in the post it talks about it’s engines which aren’t available in the Edge and it’s upgraded front and rear suspension, also not available on Edge.
My god what does Lincoln have to do?!

Also, the seats in the Lincolns are WAY better. When we went to the Ford dealer, we made the mistake of driving the Lincolns first. After that I couldn’t even consider the Ford counterparts because the seats were so inferior compared to the Lincolns.

It’s not particularly good from any angle, but that front is just the damn worst:
There is another car that whenever I see the front I think it just absolutely ruins what could be a great looking car, but I can’t think of it at the moment.

TRUTH
Watch out for those crazy massage seats though. I was in the current MKZ when it first came out and was pushing buttons on the side of the seat blindly...all of a sudden it felt like the seat grabbed my ass. Gotta watch out for them!

It’s biggest competitor is an outdated crappy looking Cadillac SRX until the new Caddy crossover comes out I don’t think that’s a comparison you want to discuss.
You don’t here them start out on an Audi saying “well it’s basically a VW” then further down talk about what’s different. Or they don’t start an article about an SRX saying, well it’s a fancy Chevy...BUT this is what’s different.
It’s a pretty clear double standard.

Yes absolutely. When is a nice interior, a more powerful engine and upgraded suspension NOT more car for the money?
